NSPCC Talk to Year 5 & 6 about ChildLine

Prep Year 5 Year 6

26 November 2015

We had two lovely ladies called Angela & Nicola from ChildLine and The NSPCC come in to talk to us then give us serval activities to do. They showed us a presentation on what can affect a child: neglect, emotional abuse, physical abuse and sexual abuse. Afterwards we then watched two clips – one was about a boy called Guy who had experienced neglect but he talked to a ChildLine counsellor who explained to him how he could solve it. The second was an “Origami” style pop-up book video about talking to ChildLine and how it is not scary at all. We talked about what worries a child might have and how we could solve them. Next we learnt an easy way, using our hands, to remember the ChildLine website and phone number. We learnt that we all have the right to feel happy and safe. At the end they gave us worksheets to take home to do if we wanted and we got to cuddle “Buddy” who is the NSPCC mascot. We all enjoyed it and learnt a lot, thank you ChildLine and The NSPCC.

Here is a reply Angela from the NSPCC sent following the workshop:

Dear Mrs Brackstone-Drake,

It was a real pleasure to deliver our work in your school recently, the children made us very welcome, engaged really well and asked excellent questions ! We were impressed with the way the children responded, they were mature, considerate of each other and took our messages seriously.

Our visit is just part of our ongoing relationship with your school, we really appreciate the support you have given to the NSPCC in the past and wish you the very best in your future fundraising.

With very best wishes,
